CLUB CRUCEROS ANNUAL "SUBASTA" (meaning AUCTION)

 Club Cruceros Subasta 2006

Sunday, December 3 at Marina de La Paz

SUBASTA as we know it today originated before the formation of CLUB CRUCEROS, with donations from the then existing fleet in La Paz who donated items to be auctioned in the parking lot of Marina de La Paz. After the formation of the Club we got together with the local chapter of the Pentathlon, a youth organization, who helped us find the most needy neighborhoods (colonias). What we were able to collect was distributed there in the form of blankets, sweaters, food baskets, and toys.

Thereafter we associated ourselves with the JC's, and 100% of the funds that were collected were contributed to the Arbol del Niño Pobre (poor children's tree). Up to this time, we still contribute to this project to some extent.

Today the Club has found many other ways to be of help to the children of La Paz. We have supported a breakfast program in an outlying area of La Paz for six years now. These children are given breakfast three days a week before going to school. This has helped the children to improve in school.

We are associated with Fundación Para Los Niños de La Paz, A.C., in supporting scholarships for children to attend secondary school. This is the third year of this program, and we have gone from three students to twenty-six. All of these students maintain a high grade-point average and are from low or no-income families.

We also continue to extend our support for medical emergencies in the form of medications, transportation of the child to a hospital on mainland Mexico, or to the U.S.

For those of you headed to La Paz, could we ask you to bring with you any marine or household items and/or clothing as a donation to Subasta to raise money for our cause? Needless to say, cash is always acceptable. Your check or money order will arrive safely at the following address:

This began somewhere in the mid-80's as a collection of saleable items donated by the then existing fleet of visitors in the La Paz harbor. The auction was conducted out of a pick-up truck in Marina de La Paz and the funds collected were used to purchase items which could be distributed among the less fortunate families in the outlying communities (called colonias).

Club Cruceros was formed in 1988 and that year was our first concerted effort to create not just an auction, but a combined Fair & Auction. Mac & Mary Shroyer of Marina de La Paz offered their parking lot for us to set up a stage for the auction as well as allowing the Club to set up a bazaar for the sale of donated used clothing and other items too small for the Auction, a beer booth, a bake sale booth and booths for outside vendors of food and other items; these outside vendors are not charged a fee for their booths, but have to agree to donate one-third of their gross receipts to the cause.

This event dubbed "SUBASTA" has been held every year since and proven to be a good fund raiser for the Club. You are welcome to visit "Charities" page to get an idea of how the funds are used not only at Christmas time but all through the following year.

In addition to these efforts, we send out a solicitation by mail to the States which usually brings in enough to help us meet most of the needs of the "colonias" we have dedicated ourselves to help. Our hope is to expand our assistance to include other colonias and our perhaps unattainable goal is to help so many that there are no more "less fortunates" out there.

If you wish to send a donation, your check can safely be sent to:
